Arlington Road Renovation

Wellesley, MA

This dormered, painted-shingle 1904 Colonial required minor yet significant enhancements to improve its curb appeal and romantically recall its history. On the façade, newly added, classically New England materials and elements—copper gutters, operable shutters with shutter dogs, wooden railings, window boxes, and brick-veneer foundations—now provide timeless charm.

Alterations made to the back encourage indoor-outdoor living: A one-story addition provides room for a balcony off the master bedroom above. Two new sets of French doors open to a pergola-covered porch and a raised outdoor dining area with a bluestone terrace and pool beyond. A new cabana and carriage house, meanwhile, echo the original house’s architecture.
